LION: GM AND STABILITY

Based on inclining experiments, 1 June 1912

*Fully equipped plus 200 tons coal upper, 800 tons lower bunkers.

**Fully equipped plus 3,520 tons coal.

Flying-off platforms added over ‘Q’ and ‘Y’ turrets during the early part of 1918. ‘Y’ platform was fitted before ‘Q’ and was an early experimental type raised well clear of turret – almost like a ski-jump. Large screen to protect aircraft evident. Wide yard fitted at rear of tripod legs below funnel height in Lion only (removed sometime in 1918). Rangefinder baffles removed.

1918–19 High-angle rangefinder fitted over control top in both ships. Torpedo control tower added at extremities of after superstructure in Lion only. Distinct funnel cap fitted to fore funnel in Lion.
